The Mountain Community Monte Cervino, Aosta Valley

The Mountain Community Monte Cervino was instituted in 1974 and embraces the Communes of Antey-Saint-André, Chambave, Chamois, Châtillon, Emarèse, La Magdeleine, Pontey, Saint-Denis, Saint-Vincent, Torgnon, Valtournenche and Verrayes, which share a territory and objectives for a common development.

The surface area of the Mountain Community is 335,61 qkm, that is to say 33.561 ha.

According to the article 71 of the Regional Law of the 7th December 1998 n. 54, "the Mountain Communities are local government bodies for the exercise, in a partnership way, of the municipal functions and of the basic services of the citizens for a better execution of the duties of the local government, under a profile of efficiency, efficacy, inexpensiveness and adherence to the social and territorial conditions.
The Mountain Communities are the instruments for the realization of the regional politics for the mountain.
According to the special interventions for the mountain established by the European Community or by the state and regional laws, the whole territory of the Region is considered a mountain one."

The subdivision of the Aosta Valley territory in seven areas corresponding to as many Mountain Communities was at first established with the regional law of the 5th April 1973 n.13 and then with the regional law of the 15th December 1982 n.92 thanks to which another Community was created.
